On December 17, 2013, Prof. A.A. Franco (LRCS, Amiens) is delivering an invited presentation within the Bi-annual Meeting of the ALISTORE European Research Institute. His presentation is entitled "Multiscale modeling of rechargeable batteries: theory and practice" and will take place in the "Institut de Chimie de la Matière Condensée de Bordeaux" (Bordeaux, France). ALISTORE-ERI is composed of several european partners whose main objective is to develop and integrate common research strategy and programs in electrochemical energy storage. Activities include research and development of new technologies and it is also one of the hosting structures of the Erasmus Mundus Master on Materials for Energy Storage and Conversion (MESC).
On December 12, 2013, MESC students will be delivering their proposals presentations to solve the "Fuel Cells Students Challenge 2013" created by Prof. A.A. Franco within his "Fuel Cells" lectures series. Within the proposed challenges, the students are required to propose solutions of diverse practical problems and applications, including planes and micro-robots powered with fuel cells.
The best works will be the subject of a joint publication in the Journal of Chemical Education of the American Chemical Society.
Adjunct Prof. Kourosh Malek (Simon Fraser University and National Research Council of Canada) is visiting LRCS within the framework of MESC , starting December 9th. The visit is hosted by Prof. A.A. Franco. He will be giving lectures on fuel cells, electrochemical storage as well as cost analysis of electrochemical technologies. In addition, he will continue his long-term collaboration with Prof. Franco related to the modeling of electrochemical power generators.
On next November 27, 2013, Prof. A.A. Franco (LRCS, Amiens) will deliver an invited seminar on his research activities in the Fraunhofer Institute for Algorithms and Scientific Computing SCAI, in Bonn, Germany. Audience of the seminar will include people from the Fraunhofer Institute and from the Institute for Numerical Simulation of the University of Bonn.
On next November 13, 2013, a mid-term presentation of ALIBABA project results will be done in Paris by the coordinator, Dr. Marie-Liesse Doublet (ICG, Montpellier), within the French National Research Agency (ANR) Projects Review series. This project aims at developing a multiscale physicochemical model to study, understand and predict the electrochemical reactivity at the interfaces in lithium ion batteries. The project combines theoretical and experimental works. Prof. A.A. Franco (LRCS, Amiens) is involved in this project as Working Package leader for the development of the multiscale model based on the new computational framework MS LIBER-T.
On October 1, 2013, Prof. A. A. Franco (LRCS, Amiens) starts to teach his Module "Fuel Cells" within the European Master Materials for Energy Storage and Conversion (MESC). This course focuses on the recent research progresses and technological development on modern low, intermediate and high-temperature fuel cells. On a multidisciplinary basis, enriched with some epistemological concepts aiming to stimulate the students’ creativity, this course provides a complete and comprehensive critical review on crucial scientific topics related to fuel cell materials, electro-catalysis, transport phenomena and degradation. It provides the students with a deep learning on both theoretical and experimental tools to study, to analyze and to predict the performance and durability of fuel cells.

This international Tutorial is organized by Dr. Ivan Kondov (KIT, Germany) and Dr. Godehard Sutmann (FZ Jülich, Germany) on September 16-20, 2013, in FZ Juelich, Germany. The tutorial, organized within the Centre European de Calcul Atomistique et Moléculaire (CECAM), is devoted to teach both theoretical concepts and practical methodologies on multiscale modeling applied to materials science with a large diversity of applications. It includes several invited lectures, including one by Prof. Alejandro A. Franco (LRCS, Amiens) on the field of multiscale modeling of fuel cells and batteries.

This is an international conference sponsored by the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE) and the Electrochemical Society (ECS) with the aim to describe how, from first-principles molecular electrochemistry, new materials and processes can be developed, either at the laboratory or industrial scale. Contributions are devoted to emphasize the connecting role of molecular electrochemistry between different areas of knowledge.
This conference will take place in La Muralla, Mexico, from September 16 to 19, 2013, and includes several invited keynotes, among them Prof. Alejandro A. Franco (LRCS / Université de Picardie Jules Verne, France).
